How to Allocate More RAM to Minecraft Launcher
- 1Open the Minecraft launcher
- 2Click on the Installations tab
- 3Select the installation that you want to allocate more RAM to
- 4Click on the Edit button
- 5Scroll down to the JVM Arguments section
- 6In the
-Xmxparameter, enter the amount of RAM you want to allocate (e.g.,-Xmx4Gfor 4 GB) - 7Click the Save button
How Much RAM Should I Allocate?

| Vanilla Minecraft | 2 GB |
| Small modpack (< 20 mods) | 3ā4 GB |
| Medium modpack (20ā50 mods) | 4ā6 GB |
| Large modpack (50+ mods) | 6ā8 GB |
| Multiplayer server | 4+ GB |
> The amount of RAM you can allocate depends on how much RAM your computer has. Never allocate more than 75% of your total system RAM to Minecraft ā leave some for your OS.
Allocating the right amount of RAM to Minecraft will improve performance and reduce lag.
