How to Change MOTD of Minecraft Server

Change your server's Message Of The Day using server.properties, ServerListPlus, or MiniMOTD.

Changing the MOTD via server.properties

Open your server panel and head to File Explorer. Enter your server.properties file and head to the motd section. Paste your desired text where the old one was, then restart your server and your changes will be applied.

ServerListPlus is a plugin that changes your MOTD through a plugin, also adding features like custom MOTDs for separate players.

  1. 1Download and place the plugin into your server's plugins folder and restart
  2. 2Head into the ServerListPlus folder and open the config.yml
  3. 3Change the MOTD how you like — mctools.org/motd-creator can help you design one

How to Change Your MOTD with MiniMOTD

MiniMOTD supports RGB gradients (1.16+) and works as a plugin (Spigot/Paper/BungeeCord/Velocity) or mod (Fabric/Sponge).

  1. 1Download and place the plugin into your plugins folder (or mods folder) and restart
  2. 2Head into the MiniMOTD folder and open the main.conf
