Minecraft Chunk Corruption Errors and Their Fix

Understand what chunk corruption is and how to fix it on your Minecraft server.


What Are Chunk Corruption Errors?

Chunk corruption errors look like this in your console:

[INFO] Chunk (42, -2) stored at (35, -28)
[SEVERE] java.lang.Throwable
[SEVERE] at org.bukkit.craftbukkit.util.LongHashtable.get(LongHashtable.java:32)
[SEVERE] at net.minecraft.server.ChunkProviderServer.getOrCreateChunk(...)

Chunk corruption can cause a plethora of problems including:

  • Lag
  • World data not saving
  • World holes
  • Malfunctioning plugins
  • Other odd behavior

Fixes

There aren't many solutions to fixing chunk corruption, but here are the options:

  1. 1MCEdit — Use a program such as MCEdit to remove the damaged area
  2. 2Chunk Repair Utilities — Use chunk repair utilities if they are not outdated or still in development
  3. 3New World — In severe cases, create a new world entirely
