Out of Memory Error Minecraft
Diagnose and fix out of memory (OOM) crashes on your Minecraft server.
What Causes Out of Memory Errors?
Usually, out of memory errors is due to your server running out of RAM. The cause is a bit more difficult to determine.
Note that every Minecraft package has a set amount of RAM. The use of plugins will use up this RAM in addition to each user on your server taking up a chunk of RAM themselves.
Common causes:
- Too many plugins for the available RAM
- Using multi-world plugins (each world uses a lot of memory even if no players are on it)
- Out of date or incompatible plugins
- Memory leaks caused by mobs, lava, water, redstone, pistons, or entities
Solutions
- 1Reduce plugins ā Remove unnecessary plugins to free up RAM
- 2Limit worlds ā Reduce the number of active worlds
- 3Update plugins ā Keep everything up to date to reduce incompatibility
- 4Upgrade RAM ā Consider upgrading to a higher RAM plan
- 5Lower player slots ā More plugins + fewer players = more stable
- 6Remove entities ā Clear excess mobs, items, and other entities using
/lagg clearand/lagg killmobs
