How to Create and Restore Backups
Snapshot your server before risky changes, restore in one click if it goes wrong.
Introduction
Backups are full snapshots of your server files. Every plan includes a set number of backup slots, when you hit the cap, the oldest one rotates out (unless you lock it).
Create a Backup
- 1Open the panel ā Backups tab
- 2Click Create Backup
- 3Give it a name (e.g. "Before installing modpack")
- 4(Optional) Tick Lock to prevent auto-deletion
- 5Click Start Backup
The panel snapshots in the background. You can keep playing, but expect brief disk-write spikes.
Restore a Backup
- 1Open Backups
- 2Find the snapshot you want
- 3Click the Restore icon
- 4Confirm
- 5The server stops, files revert, and the server restarts
Warning: Restore overwrites every file on the server. Anything created after the backup is gone. Make a fresh backup first if you might want both versions.
Download a Backup
- Click Generate Download next to any backup
- Wait for the link to appear (large backups take a minute)
- Download as a
.tar.gzarchive - Keep offline copies of important snapshots
Backup Strategy
- Daily auto-backup, see Scheduled Tasks
- Manual backup before any risky change (version upgrade, mod install, world edit)
- Lock milestones, base completion, big events, before a contentious player change
- Off-site copy, download monthly milestones to your local drive
When Backups Fail
- Out of disk ā free up space or upgrade plan
- Server crashed mid-backup ā restart and try again
- Persistent failures ā open a ticket, we'll investigate
